Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas.

  • Cherry Creek State Park.
    • Crews continue to install new natural gas line along Peoria Street. Construction in the Park will continue through 2021.
    • Crews are working near the Cottonwood Creek Trail. Sections of the trail will be closed through April. Please follow posted detours and directions from our crews. View a map of the trail closure.
  • Near Boston Street and Chester Way. Crews will install the natural gas line in the grass median between these streets, north of Mansfield Avenue, beginning as early as March 22.
  • Union Avenue between Yosemite and Dayton streets. Crews planned to install the natural gas line across Union Avenue beginning Monday, March 15, during Cherry Creek Public School’s spring break. Due to significant snow accumulation, this work has been postponed to summer 2021.
  • Near Hampden Avenue between Akron and Yosemite streets. Crews continue to replace a regulator station near this location. Work will continue at this location into summer 2021.

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas:

  • Cherry Creek State Park.
    • Crews continue to work in the Park along Peoria Street. Activities will continue into summer 2021.
    • Crews are working near the Cottonwood Creek Trail as early as next week. Sections of the trail will be closed beginning Monday, March 8 through April. Please follow posted detours and directions from our crews. View a map of the trail closure.
  • Near Boston Street and Chester Way. Crews will install the natural gas line in the grass median between these streets beginning, north of Mansfield Avenue, beginning this month.
  • Union Avenue between Yosemite and Dayton streets. Crews will install the natural gas line across Union Avenue between Yosemite and Dayton streets beginning Saturday, March 13, during Cherry Creek Public School’s spring break to limit area inconveniences. Work will continue through Sunday, March 21. Union Avenue will remain open to traffic.
  • Near Hampden Avenue between Akron and Yosemite streets. Crews are replacing a regulator station near this location. Testing procedures including flaring will occur. Flaring safely removes natural gas from natural gas infrastructure. It ignites and burns off natural gas and reduces the amount of natural gas released into the atmosphere. If you are outside, when flaring occurs:
    • You may see a flame up to 10 feet in height at the work site.
    • You may hear the sound of natural gas venting from the natural gas infrastructure.
    • You may smell the mercaptan odorant, which produces a sulfur or “rotten egg” odor, although it may smell differently to you. If you smell it inside your home or business, please leave immediately. Once safely away, call 911, then Xcel Energy at 800-895-2999.

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas:

  • Cherry Creek State Park. Construction activities in Cherry Creek State Park will start soon.
    • Crews will begin installing new natural gas line in the Park along Peoria Street as early as next week. Activities will head north with work continuing into summer 2021.
    • Crews will also work near Cottonwood Creek Trail as early as next week. This work is expected to continue through March.
  • Near Boston Street and Chester Way. Crews will install new natural gas line in the grass median between these streets beginning as early as March. Preconstruction activities will begin in the coming weeks.
  • Near the intersection of Havana and Berry avenues. Crews are restoring previous work areas. Trail access may be limited for short durations. Please follow posted signs and directions from our crews. We will return later this year to complete work at this location.
  • Near Hampden Avenue between Akron and Yosemite streets. Crews began replacing a regulator station near this location in February. Work will continue at this location into summer 2021.

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas:

  • Cherry Creek State Park. Construction will begin in Cherry Creek State Park in the coming weeks. Preconstruction activities are ongoing.
  • Near the intersection of Havana and Berry avenues. We expect construction at the regulator station to be completed in February. Trail access may be limited for short durations during construction. Please follow posted signs and directions from our crews. Please note we will later this year to complete work at this location.
  • Near Hampden Avenue between Akron and Yosemite streets. Crews will replace a regulator station near this location beginning in February and continuing into summer. Crews will place temporary fencing near the entrance at Akron Street.

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas:

  • Cherry Creek State Park. The Butterfly Hill Trail has reopened for public use. We will conduct minor passive prairie dog relocation activities for the coming months.
  • Near the intersection of Havana and Berry avenues. Construction will continue at the regulator station for the coming weeks. Please stay clear of work areas for your safety and the safety of our crews.
  • Near Hampden Avenue between Akron and Yosemite streets. Crews will replace a regulator station near this location beginning in February. Work will occur at the site into summer. Temporary fencing will be placed near the entrance at Akron Street. Additional crews will work in the area.
  • Village Greens Park east of Cherry Creek Village North in Greenwood Village. Crews will continue minor restoration of previous work areas in the ballfields in Village Greens Park and the temporary access road. Restoration will continue through the coming months, weather permitting.

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas:

  • Cherry Creek State Park. The Butterfly Hill Trail has reopened for public use. We will conduct minor passive prairie dog relocation activities for the coming months. Additional preconstruction activities will continue in the coming weeks.
  • Near the intersection of Havana and Berry avenues. Construction will continue at the regulator station for the coming weeks. Please stay clear of work areas for your safety and the safety of our crews.
  • Village Greens Park east of Cherry Creek Village North in Greenwood Village. Crews have started restoring previous work areas in the ballfields in Village Greens Park. Restoration includes laying and maintaining grass seed and fertilizer and is weather dependent. Restoration will continue through the coming months, weather permitting.

  • Cherry Creek State Park. Crews continue to perform limited, weather dependent passive prairie dog relocation activities. The Butterfly Hill Trail is closed temporarily. Please follow posted signs and directions from crews and avoid recreation activities near relocation areas. Please stay clear of work areas for your safety and to avoid disturbing the wildlife.
  • Near the intersection of Havana and Berry avenues. Short-term, minor preconstruction activities will take place near this intersection in December 2020. Please stay clear of work areas for your safety and the safety of our crews.

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas:

  • Village Greens Park east of Cherry Creek Village North in Greenwood Village.
    • In the previous work areas north of the ball fields, we will conduct restoration activities as weather permits.
    • In the previous work areas in the ball fields, we will perform temporary restoration activities. Crews will return to conduct permanent restoration in spring 2021, weather permitting.
  • Cherry Creek State Park. Crews continue to perform non-lethal relocation of prairie dogs and other preconstruction activities. We have implemented temporary trail closures on the Butterfly Hill Trail and ask visitors to avoid recreation activities near these areas. Please follow posted signs and direction from crews. Additionally, please stay clear of work areas for your safety and to avoid disturbing the wildlife.
  • Near the intersection of Havana and Berry. Short-term, minor preconstruction activities will take place near this intersection in December 2020. Please stay clear of work areas for your safety and the safety of our crews.

Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas:

  • Cherry Creek State Park. Non-lethal relocation of prairie dogs in future construction work areas is in progress. Trail detours will be implemented to allow for this work to occur. Please follow posted detour signs and direction from crews. Additionally, please stay clear of work areas for your safety and to avoid disturbing the wildlife. Additional preconstruction activities are taking place in the Park.
  • Near the intersection of Havana and Berry. Crews plan to begin work at the regulator station located near this intersection as early as the week of Dec. 7, 2020. We will place temporary barriers and fencing to prevent unauthorized access. Please stay clear of work areas for your safety and the safety of our crews.

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas: 

  • Village Greens Park east of Cherry Creek Village North in Greenwood Village. Construction in this area will continue through November 2020. Final restoration efforts are anticipated to take place in spring 2021. 
  • Cherry Creek State Park. Non-lethal relocation of prairie dogs in future construction work areas is in progress. Please stay clear of work areas for your safety and to avoid disturbing the wildlife. Additional preconstruction activities are taking place in the Park.

Friday, Oct. 30, 2020 

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas: 

  • Village Greens Park east of Cherry Creek Village North in Greenwood Village. Work in this area will continue through February 2021.  
  • Cherry Creek High School parking lots at 9300 E. Union Ave. Crews plan to return to restore work areas to preconstruction conditions on Saturday, Oct. 31. 
  • Cherry Creek State Park. Crews are preparing construction work areas and anticipate beginning construction in the Park this fall. Please note that non-lethal relocation of prairie dogs in the area is in progress. Please stay clear of work areas for your safety and to avoid disturbing the animals.

Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will take place in the following areas: 

  • Boston Street between Nassau Street and Lehigh Avenue. Work will continue through October 2020. 
  • Village Greens Park east of Cherry Creek Village North in Greenwood Village. Work in this area will continue through February 2021.  
  • Cherry Creek School District maintenance facilities at 9301 E. Union Ave. Crews will begin work on Monday, Oct. 19 and will continue work in this area and in the ballfields immediately north through February 2021.   
  • Cherry Creek High School parking lots at 9300 E. Union Ave. Crews anticipate completing work on Sunday, Oct. 18 and anticipate restoring work areas to preconstruction conditions on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Construction Updates 

Construction activities will take place during allowable daytime hours, except for special circumstances, in the following areas over the coming weeks: 

  • Work to install the line under I-225 will conclude with a pullback to install the new natural gas line through the bored area on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Following boring activities, work on Boston Street between Nassau Street and Lehigh Avenue will continue through October. Work in Village Greens Park east of Cherry Creek Village North in Greenwood Village will continue through February 2021. Please note that extended work hours may be necessary to complete pullback work. 
  • Work will continue near the north end of the Cherry Creek School District’s ball fields through October. 
  • Work in the FirstBank parking lot will continue through October. Access to the bank’s parking lot and drive-up ATM will remain available. Some work in Hampden Avenue will be required. 
  • Work will continue at the shopping center at Boston Street and Hampden Avenue through October. Access to the businesses will remain open. Work in Hampden Avenue will be required. 
  • Work on Cherry Creek School District property at Dayton Street will begin as early as Oct. 10, 2020. Work will occur seven days a week through Oct. 18.
